Day at Lake Willoughby

On Saturday mom and dad took me to a beautiful lake for a day at the "beach".  It was really, really sunny, so mom made me wear my outside hat.  The lake was so calm, and mom and dad kept talking about how pretty the mountains looked (I couldn't see, they were more than 18 inches away)!
Before we left, mom wanted me to feel the water...it was so cold!!! I hope we go back there before the summer is over!
So sunny!

"How do I look in this hat...be honest?!"

no no no no no no NO!

Auntie and Uncle in Vermont

I have ben SO excited for Auntie Heidi and Uncle Matt to visit my house in VT!  They came for a weekend, and we did some fun things.  Auntie is a great mom, so she taught my mom lots of good tips and tricks, like fun ways to startle me awake when I fall asleep eating.  Uncle Matt played with me on my activity mat.  He is so happy I am finally here.  Once I understand things better, he will teach me lots and lots about science  and lasers and outer space.   I love them both so much already! Next time they see me, I'm sure I will have grown lots!

First trip!

My mom and dad prepared a lot for a looooong car ride to R.I. to visit family.  After a rainy and traffic-filled journey, we went to a family reunion and met lots of mom's relatives.  There were other babies like me there too, mike Maggie and Sammy!  Sammy and I got cozy in these cool pod tents for a while.  While I snacked on formula, mom and dad ate a clam bake and yummy grill!
Cousin Sammy is a little  older than me, and is super cute!

Our family wore redshirts,  but I opted for an outfit from Nana.... the picnic look!

I may be going bald, but I am learning so many more cute faces  each day!

One Month Old!!

This past Wednesday I turned one month old!  It started with a really happy morning.  Look how huge my face is now! I am getting looooong too.  My auntie Heidi got me this perfect onsie to celebrate the day. My mom gave me a manicure (clipped my nails) today without even hurting me! And, my hair is beginning to fall out.  I wonder what will grow in?!

Busy busy

The past couple of weeks have been loaded with different activities.  I am told that Mom has taken me on lots of walks on the bike path in Stowe with friends.  I really like being in the stroller, but it puts me to sleep in an instant!!  Between the walk and the car ride, I get some major nap time.  Beauty rest...

At home, they keep making me do this thing called 'tummy time' to help my head get strong.  Once I realize what is going on, I let them know nice and loud that it is NOT my favorite activity!  They keep it short and sweet.  I guess as I get bigger, I will like it more. I mean, Im still trying to get used to these hands flying in my face all of the time!

About my name...

So, I guess mom and dad have gotten A LOT of questions about my name.  I thought I would explain where it came from...
First, Dad met a nice client whose name was Marit, and he came home and told mom that he really liked the name and the spelling.  Much to her surprise, mom loved it too!  Wow!  After years of name ideas, they finally fully agreed on this one!
Then, soon after that, dad heard a commentator on NPR with the name Marit.  It was popping up everywhere!
Then, when dad went to repaint my room (the same green color that they chose 5 years ago when they only dreamed of a baby room)...he found the original paint can in the basement.  He looked at the name of the color....Merritt Apple!   Different spelling, but totally meant to be.

Marit is a Swedish and Norwegian form of Margaret.  Mom keeps helping people pronounce my name by saying “Marit...rhymes with carrot.”  It is like saying the name “Mary”...with an “it” instead of an “ee”.

I got my middle name, Frances, from my Nana Annie, mommy’s mom.  That’s her middle name, and my mom thinks it is beautiful, just like Nana.  (Also, dad’s favorite kid’s book character growing up was Frances the badger!)
